Notice of Proposed Constitution
Change
Attention BDGSA Members. The
following is a proposed addition to BDGSA Constitution:
Police Record Checks & Vulnerable Sector Screening
As part of the Barrie and District
Girls Softball Association’s (BDGSA) commitment to ensure that our
coaches represent the highest standard of professionalism, it is a
requirement that all team officials (coaches, assistant coaches and
managers), both from House League Division and Rep Division, submit a
current Police Background Check (PBC) and a Vulnerable Sector
Screening (VSS). Deadline for submissions will be set by the sitting
Executive Committee.
Police checks are to be done on a
biyearly basis, if the existing team official returns each year. PBCs
and VSSs shall remain valid in alternating years, provided the
individual self-declares through signature or a check of the
appropriate box while registering that they have not committed or been
charged with a crime since submitting their initial VSS and PBC. In
the event that the team official takes a leave or fails to return the
following year, a new PBC and VSS shall be required upon his/her
return.
The BDGSA shall supply a letter to the
team officials to present to the Barrie Police Services (or Police
Service of city/town of residence) to have the fee for the PBC and VSS
waived.
The above addition to the constitution
will be voted on at the upcoming Annual General Meeting taking place
September 18, 2008, Allandale Rec Centre, Lower Meeting Room, 7:30 pm.

About the B.D.G.S.A.
Player Levels
As
always we will be fielding teams at three levels; House league, Select
and Rep.
Select
(All Star) teams consist of players from our House League division,
players who are looking for a little more challenge and have the
desire to play extra games during the season. All Star teams generally
play one day tournaments scheduled on weekends throughout the season
and will travel to locations in and around Ontario Please see the All
Star page for information.
Rep is
an extremely competitive level and requires total commitment from
everyone involved. Rep players do not play in the House League
division but instead travel throughout the area playing equally
skilled and competitive teams from other towns. If you've ever dreamed
of playing on an Olympic or National team this is where it all starts.
It is the stepping stone for the best players in the country. Girls
have the opportunity to travel the U.S. and possibly earn
scholarships. Please see the Rep page for coach and tryout
information.
Divisions
We
hope to have all divisions in operation this year. If you have a
friend who might be interested in playing this year please bring them
along for registration. This season will see Six divisions playing one
game per week.
Community Service Opportunities
Do you
play for B.D.G.S.A. and are in need of community service hours? We
will be looking for general help throughout the year. If you are
dependable and would like to help out with your sport please e-mail
us.
Clinics
BDGSA
will be offering pitching and catching clinics again this year for all
players who want to master the proper techniques for 'windmill'
pitching and back-catching. Emphasis will be placed on developing
style approved by Softball Ontario that promotes power and control.
The program focuses on strengthening specific muscle groups thereby
reducing the chance of injury. Please see the Clinics page for a
complete schedule.
Calling All Coaches
We
would like to talk to anyone interested in coaching. This a very
gratifying experience, allowing you to touch the lives of a number of
children and give back to your community. Coaches are considered to be
among the best mentors our children will meet in their lifetimes. The
values of sportsmanship and fair play that you help foster in them
will stay with them forever. You are also showing your own children
that you are not just Mom or Dad, but someone that other children can
look up to. For more information on coaching House League please
contact our VP of House League.
